For sale: 1999 Mazda Miata.
Asking $23,000.
Built to SCCA Spec Miata regulations by a Master Certified Automotive Technician with 21 years of experience at an Audi dealership. I have also won an award for a previous restoration and custom build project, and this car reflects the same attention to detail.
This is a very "big-driver-friendly" Spec Miata. It features a parcel-shelf-mounted Miata Cages roll cage and an installed drop floor. At 6'2" and 220 pounds, I fit comfortably under the cage while the car still meets minimum weight requirements. The dry weight was 2,362 pounds when I professionally aligned the car on our alignment machine at work.
The car is powered by a mid-mileage short block, estimated at approximately 60,000 miles, paired with a competition-prepared cylinder head. The head was installed before the 2025 season, and the timing belt and water pump were replaced at the same time. Fresh oil and coolant service have just been completed, and the car is race-ready.
The body is straight and clean. There is evidence of an older rust repair on the passenger-side rear quarter and fender, but otherwise the body is rust-free. The paint remains in good condition, and the car presents very well overall.
Notable features include:
Tire pressure monitoring system with real-time pressure and temperature display
Hard-wired transponder with no monthly subscription fees
AIM Solo 2 lap timer mounted above the windshield for easy visibility while driving
Wiring and switch already installed for a future data acquisition system
All added electrical accessories are independently switched and protected by aviation-style circuit breakers, all visible from the driver's seat for quick troubleshooting
The car currently runs an open differential. A Torsen limited-slip is included with the sale but was never installed. I have been testing the car with the open differential to evaluate potential straight-line speed gains and have raced it this way since completion without issue. A significantly more experienced Spec Miata driver also drove the car and found it to be very fast, with consistently strong trap speeds.
Additional parts included with the sale:
Torsen limited-slip differential
Factory front air dam
Front subframe braces
Tires and wheels included:
Two complete sets of used Hoosier SM7.5 tires:
One set mounted on competition wheels
One set unmounted
One pair of spare Hoosier SM7.5 tires with only three heat cycles, mounted on wheels
One set of used Hoosier rain tires mounted on factory wheels
This is a well-sorted, race-ready Spec Miata with thoughtful upgrades and excellent tall-driver ergonomics.
