This car was bought for Lemons and ChumpCar, stripped out, roll caged, rewired.
More photos available if needed. Prefer to show in person, Clear Lake TX.
It has been a lot of fun, but it's time for the next person to enjoy. It feels like a gokart - no doors, low to the ground, lots of noise, slow enough you probably aren’t going to be able to get a speeding ticket. I’ve only been driving it about 20 days a year.
Loads of fun for vintage/low budget racing (will need some updating), parades, car shows, local joy rides and errands. There’s a great vintage VW group in the Houston area, great parts and repair support, and you’ll get lots of smiles and thumbs up cruising around.
Please note, this is probably NOT a daily driver. Besides the antique auto plate restriction (exhibition/parade/maintenance only) it’s not perfectly reliable, it’s loud, smelly, looks silly, and it’s uncomfortable for anyone over about 200lb/6 feet tall.
Nothing on this car is original except possibly the transmission. You cannot reasonably take this back to anything like original spec for anything like a reasonable budget.
The good -
Street legal - headlights, turn signals brake lights, windshield wipers, etc
Registered and plated under Texas Antique Auto rules
Starts on the button on cold/warm starts
Runs and idles and drives very well - I’ve driven it 150 miles in a day several times, regularly 50 miles a day to work/errands/car shows
Near race ready - tech inspection varies per class, but the cage was acceptable for 2016 Lemons and 2017 Chumpcar.
Has 5 point harnesses
Wiring all labelled and fused
The bad -
Hot starts can be finicky
Cage needs dash bar reinstalled - removed for windshield clearance
Doors and engine cover don’t match
Needs dash bar reinstalled and harnesses and fire suppression system recertified
BRAKES - these were doing pretty well until last service, probably needs to be updated to discs (under $500)
Without doors and windows and engine cover, it probably needs to be kept indoors/covered.
Passenger seat may have come from an arcade game
Car was built entirely by amateurs.
